Adding window treatments to your nursery, kid?s room or playroom is an easy and inexpensive way to give the room flair.  Dressing up your windows with treatments can also tie together the style and color elements in the room.  Choose from curtain panels, cornice board, roman shades, wooden blinds, plantation shutters or valance to enhance the look of your room.  Keep in mind that functionality of the treatment must be considered too, as a soundly sleeping baby is important!

There are all sorts of fabric options for the window treatments you select.  Choose from a coordinating fabric in the same pattern as your crib bedding in a solid, dot, gingham, chevron, or other complimentary pattern.  Coverage of the window should be considered too.  The valance or cornice board will not necessarily cover the window completely.  Whereas, curtain panels (depending on their width), blinds, shutters and shades can be used to block all the light from your windows.    If your fabric is light weight, simply add a blackout shade or lining to your window treatment.

When using fabric on your window treatment, repeat the fabric around the room.  You can put accents of the fabric on the crib bedding, slipcover for glider, throw pillows, changing pad cover or lamp shade.

Safety Considerations for window treatments in children?s rooms:

1.    Do not place window treatments near a crib or changing table.  They should also be out of reach of your little one at all times.

  1. Window treatments should not have any decorations or cording that could be pulled off and swallowed.
  2. Cords on blinds can cause strangulation, so keep out of reach of children.
